A harsh message to LLM users
A short Mastodon thread published here for posterity.
If you use #LLMs, I consider you to be committing violence against me and all creators (not to mention the biosphere), and I literally consider you as an enemy.
If you don’t care about the absence of creative choices behind #LLM slop, if you consider art to be limited to elevator pitch+finished product, I consider you to be a soulless fool.
No ifs, thens or buts. Sorry not sorry.
Yes, I know there are small LLMs that run locally and can be marginally useful. But they legitimize LLM technology and all it’s evils (plundering creators and renting them back their own creative work).
Yes, I know they can be used for assistive technologies, but I actually think this is an ablist view (we can finally automate getting those pesky disabled people off our backs). If you can’t be bothered to write AltText, you are the problem in search of a (bad) solution.
But even assuming there are a few practical use cases, they. are. not. worth. the. cost. for. anyone.
